Adam Cohen – “What Other Guy” (guitar chords)

Adam Cohen

This was playing on CBC Radio 2 this morning when I woke up, and I assumed it was a Leonard Cohen cover I hadn’t heard yet. Appropriately it’s his son, finally letting his father’s influence show.

Playing notes

Cohen switches things up a lot throughout the song. Don’t always play the high E string, and throw in some hammer-ons to get the sound right. The G/F#, G/B, and A7sus4 chords are transitional, so you can leave them out if you’re having trouble.

The chords

Capo VI

C: x32033
G: 320033
Em: 022033
D: xx0233
G/F#: 2x0033
G/B: x20033
A7sus4: xx2233

Intro:

C G

C G
I know what you look like in the morning
                         C
Your kisses are soft and warm
                            G
I can draw you with my eyes closed
                                     C
See you with nothing on but the radi-o
                                    G
I know how many years of French you took
                                    C
Your favourite movies, your favourite books
                            G
I know what really gets you going... glowing

  Em D C
I know where you go with your beautiful friends
  Em D C
I know what you taste like when the night ends

G Em
I know the kind of thing that makes you laugh
                                      C
The way you tilt your head for a photograph
                              G G/F#
What other guy knows you like that?

G Em
And I can name the first guy you ever kissed
                               C
I can name the perfume on your wrist
                              G G/F#
What other guy knows you like that?

    C G/B
Oh, Anne
    D A7sus4
Oh, Anne

C G
I know what you want by what you're wearing
                            C
The kind of night you're preparing
                                      G
I know what your hands do when you're kissing
                                         C
Your number one and number two favourite positions
                     G
I know how your skin glistens... listen

  Em D C
I know where you go with your beautiful friends
  Em D C
I know what you taste like when the night ends

G Em
I know the kind of thing that makes you laugh
                                      C
The way you tilt your head for a photograph
                              G G/F#
What other guy knows you like that?

G Em

Thanks so much Matthew. I’ve been hearing this tune on Radio 2 and have fallen for it. I’m a big Leonard Cohen fan and this tune just caught me immediately. I tried fruitlessly to figure out what he was doing on the guitar on Youtube. Your tab is a great resource.

Saw him last month at the Drake’s Underground here in Toronto, cosy tight venue on Queen W, maybe 100-120 there, he sang this, was delicious. So many others of his good too, Matthew. Thx for the chords. I actually have Adam on here now. Am a newbie, going from a bunch of classical training to guitar, just got one this week, and am going to learn this one :-D

    Shame I can’t sing LOL…

Thanks for posting this. It’s a great song. I’m not sure you’re right about the A7sus4 chords though. The C# in that chord doesn’t seem to belong. I’m thinking it holds on D at the end of each chorus? and the other A7sus4 chords are maybe G/B chords again?

A site that isn’t indexed much by Google or doesn’t turn upp until page 1,993,990
on a Google search for its kind is WORTHLESS to you. While this is better than not driving traffic to
anything of yours, it is ineffective when compared
to driving traffic to a location-specific
landing page with a strong offer and several convenient methods of contacting the clinic.
Thus the overall concept of Ad Sense is beneficial to Google as well as many website owners who make money
with Ad – Sense without input of money and time.
