Five Blank Pages – Last Blush
Disclosure
I’ve known Five Blank Pages‘ singer/songwriter, Noyan, for a number of years now. We “met” through wasteyourdaysaway.com (which is now the official Hayden website – he has a new record coming out, too) more than five years ago. We both ended up not finishing a track for the Hayden tribute album that never happened.
Last Blush
Last Blush continues where the last record, Spaces To Occupy and Abandon, left off. The lyrics are as sappy and sweet as ever and it’s hard not to smile at lyrics like “we love because we want to love” (from I Don’t Believe in Coincidence Anymore) when the harmonies are sung by Noyan’s wife/bandmate, Pinar. The early 90s power-pop influence is still there, but so is a much larger and daring sound. The manic energy of “Dry Eyes”, the harmonium on “Acquaintances”, and the horns in “The Great Canadian Winter” are all welcome additions that fit in well with the rest of the record.
You can listen to “Dry Eyes” here:

Last Blush is available through Maple Music (who have finally added an affordable shipping option – hooray!), and you can listen to some of the album at their MySpace page.
