Post-sedation Notebook

Sedation

I was sedated for the first time yesterday. As I was waiting at the hospital post-procedure (I’m fine), I wrote down a few things I can’t remember writing:

The nurse snuck me a sandwich. In a different situation, I’d have fallen in love.

The whole thing took apx. 1.5 hours but I’m not really sure. I was taking a nap as the doctor came in and I’ve been on sedatives & painkillers. I estimate that I lost abut one hour through this procedure.

In the waiting room, I saw someone brought in [illegible] the EMTs, wearing a neck brace. They were instantly followed by a custodian, carting around a desk. What a dichotomy.

My first vein was slippery & my IV arm is still a bit tender because of that.

While the nurses assigned to me were wonderfully nice & caring, the ones who weren’t ignored me. I tried smiling, no smile back.

This place is LONELY. I was waiting, in a day bed, with no one around, for 20 minutes.

There’s tomato in my sandwich. But that’s ok.

I couldn’t figure out the tonality of the BP machine. At first, I assumed that faster beeping meant a higher BPM rate. Then I thought it was inversed and slow beeping meant high pressure. Then I figured out that both of those things are wrong and I couldn’t figure out the concordance (if any).

I want coffee.
