Oh that's awesome! It's always nice to know that people are digging the same music I do. You're very welcome.

Great coincidence, too... my sis-in-law was just telling me how she saw Ron outside her apartment in Edmonton a couple years ago.

On Lionel Groux; they always have (had? I don't know anymore) the best metro musicians. Live your dream!

I tried, I really did, to like Patrick Wolf but he just reminds me of a goth version of Mika.

I'm more experienced on the piano-organ and I'm just now starting on the Viola, so I'll probably stick to the fifths for now like you said. I have this mad dream of learning the viola and getting a little group together where we shall play at Lionel Groux metro station here in Montreal and cause riots and dance parties with old grannies. It's quite a fantastic dream, perhaps too fantastic...

I think you might like Patrick Wolf's music. Him and Owen are very similar. They both tend to write songs about places (Patrick writes about Europe, Owen writes about Canada), they play the violin/viola, they dress strangely, they were on Tom Lab Records, and there's something very gay about both of them... more commonly because Owen is gay. Patrick, on the other hand, is only slightly gay. Last month Owen played a guest appearance at Patrick's show in London. You can imagine how envious I must have been.

Is the viola tuned like the violin? In fifths? If you're a beginner, I'd just barre a couple of strings and play fifth chords and add the tonals (3rds, 4ths, etc) in as you get more comfortable. I use guitar tabs for everything from piano to tin whistle.

I'm going to check out Patrick Wolf; Owen Pallett I'm already a fan. :)

I don't suppose you happen to know any interesting chord tabs for the Viola, would you? Haha, I know that seems like a rather farfetched question to ask...

I'm quite a fan of your "listening to" list today. Jon Brion's compositions and The Decemberists always leave me in a sunny mood. I tend to listen to Yo La Tengo more in the autumn for some reason.

I don't know if you've heard of this musician already or not, but you should give a listen to Patrick Wolf (not so much 'The Magic Position' album, but 'Lycanthropy' and 'Wind in the Wires' are brilliant). And there's also Final Fantasy's Owen Pallett, basically the Canadian counterpart of the Wolf.
