Rupert Murdoch

You have helped shape the greatest medium in the history of man, the World Wide Web, into little more than a virtual junk bin. Your site is an insult to the art it houses and a disgrace to the creative potential within each individual. When I think about what could be created, but is not because the artist’s self esteem blocks her from participating in MySpace or YouTube, I feel real depression. It is an incalculable waste. I refuse to live in this world any longer; I cannot stare at this bowl of turds, piss and toilet paper any longer without flushing it.

- Via “An open letter to Rupert Murdoch”.

I REALLY wish he’d avoided the bathroom metaphor at the end – I think it really takes away from an otherwise effective “introduction”. However, Jakob Lodwick – the author of the letter and the co-founder/original creator of Vimeo (and is one of the collegehumor.com guys, and makes music videos for artists like Cex and Aloha, and etc. etc. etc.) – is one of very few people who can make a post like that and not seem like an absolute dick. I think it’s pretty hard to not to respect someone who is not only vocal about what he thinks is wrong with society (in the case, the web), but actually CREATES a valid solution.

In related news, News Corp just bought Down Jones and it is unlikely that anything’s going to change. At least we have the Jakob Lodwicks of the world trying to make things better.
